OUR MISSION

To provide safe, accessible, affordable gym space for youth sports programs that require indoor facilities.

"Tucson desperately needs a facility like the the proposed Indoor Sports Center. For too long, kids interested in youth basketball and volleyball have been been shortchanged, primarily because of the unavailability of indoor court space."

THE NEED

  • It is well established that participation in organized youth sports helps increase graduation rates and can be an effective tool to teach positive life lessons for kids.
  • Unlike other youth sports, youth basketball and volleyball programs in Tucson have no reliable, affordable access to suitable indoor playing facilities.
  • As a result:
    • Tucson’s youth basketball and volleyball programs are drastically underdeveloped.
    • Thousands of youngsters are deprived of an opportunity to participate in these sports at a recreational level.
    • It is much more difficult for student-athletes to reach their potential and advance to the next level or attain scholarships.
THE SOLUTION
  • Southern Arizona Indoor Sports Center (the “Facility”) is a new, centrally located, multi-court indoor facility that will be dedicated to youth sports, giving Tucson area youngsters a chance to learn, play and compete in quality sports programs, primarily basketball and volleyball.
  • The Facility will be a model public-private partnership with Pima County. Southern Arizona Community Sports, Inc. (SACS, Inc.), a Tucson-based non-profit organization, will contribute at least $1 million from the private sector to supplement the balance of construction funds to be provided by the County, which anticipates funding through the next bond election.
  • The facility will be staffed, programmed and managed by SACS, Inc. under an agreement with the County.  Courts will be made available to teams at a very low cost, much the same way public fields are made available to soccer, baseball and softball teams.
